About

Briana Grupp at her worktable, drawing onto a piece of linen

Briana Grupp is an artist from Berlin studying at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. She is in the class for abstract painting under the direction of Michaela Eichwald.

My work is inspired by rooms and settings that feel as though they already belong to the past—spaces that seem to have lived a story. I am fascinated by their imperfections, seeing them not as flaws but as traces of change and process. In particularly, I am interested in the subtle transformations that occur through everyday use—a table after a meal, a bathroom after use, objects left behind. These unconscious actions, through which we alter a space without even noticing, tell its story. Rather than a finished or perfect image, it is this ongoing process that continues to shape my artistic practice. I use upcycled linen textiles from France and Italy as my canvas, as well as sewing leftover fabric into pieces and transforming it with oil paint into elements in my work. I am based in Vienna, Austria.
